Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgery for bigger and fuller breasts. The result is natural, improves the appearance of the breasts, life quality and generally has a very positive psychological influence on women. Nowadays, there are many inserts available but the most common are the silicon ones. For this surgery, general anesthesia is the most common.

What to expect at your first appointment with the doctor?

You discuss everything with your plastic surgeon who will decide which size of inserts is closest to what you expect. He will also provide information about the options you have in terms of the area of the section, the type of inserts and the anesthesia that will be applied during the surgery. What you have to do is to inform your doctor for your general health and any medication you might be taking during that period of time.

How long does the surgery last?

Breast augmentation usually lasts for one to two hours.

Do I have to stay at the hospital?

You can leave the same day but if you will you can stay at the hotel for one night.

Is it painful?

Not much. The pain lasts for one or two days and it can easily be reduced with painkillers.  Despite initial discomfort, most women are very happy with the results. When you wake up you will feel good. It is important that you follow the suggested medication. Make sure you have someone that will take you home and help you for the first couple of days after the surgery. You doctor may prescribe antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory medicine.

What to expect after the surgery?

Your breasts will be wrapped up with a firm bandage for protection and support.

How is the recovery period?

Right after the surgery you will have to wear a sports bra for a few weeks in order to ensure that your breasts keep a nice and balanced shape. Your sections will have a slight pink color for a few weeks but after a few months they will start to faint. Post surgery you will have to visit your doctor to ensure a fast and healthy recovery. For at least 3 to 5 days you have to completely avoid extending your arms or lifting them above the height of your elbows.

After a few days the doctor removes your bandage. The stitches come off in a week to ten days and the swelling will gradually improve. Due to swelling your breasts might feel tight but they will gradually soften and feel natural in touch.

What is the long term result of this surgery?

Breasts look bigger for as long as the inserts «last». It is a fact that bigger breasts tend to fall quicker than smaller ones and this applies to breasts that have undergone surgery as well. It is possible that you need a breast lift sometime in the future I order to improve this fall. Unfortunately, gravity does not make any exception
